More on Darwin CBD Maps, Accommodation, Tours & Attractions:
Darwin, the Northern Territory’s vibrant capital, is a city with influences that are as much Asian as they are western. Darwin is an exciting mix of nationalities sharing an easy-going lifestyle. What makes Darwin such a unique and picturesque is that it’s located on a peninsula with the sea on three sides, once you have seen a sunset here, you’ll remember it forever.
Unlike much of Australia, Darwin is a great all year-round place to visit because it does not get a winter, the weather here is best described as balmy.
To spend short time in Darwin you will have plenty to see and do.
Due to the climate here you can almost hear things growing, Berry Springs Nature Park protects a large part of the Berry Creek catchment and is no exception. Berry Creek starts from a number of springs, forms a small creek, then reaches Darwin Harbour through a mangrove lined estuary.
For more of a firm grounded exploration of Darwin, start a little journey around Darwins coastal fringe on foot from Darwin’s Wharf.
Known for its colourful history with the ethnic population starting its pearling industry on the wharf in the 1800′s and for the Japanese bombing in 1942, Darwin Wharf is a great place for el la carte menus and el fresco dining situated over Darwin Harbour:
Meeting Darwin’s cosmopolitan wharf precinct is Darwin Harbour. The harbour is popular with divers who explore the clear waters that are dotted with sunken ships from World War II and confiscated Indonesian fishing vessels.
For above the water fun, take a trip to view the surrounding scenic mangroves and pristine tidal waters.
Still in Darwin Harbour, but perched on the cliffs is The Esplanade and Bicentennial Park. This area is a popular place to relax and enjoy the afternoon. There is a choice of walking tracks, picnic areas, and with such a beautiful view this is the perfect place to relax.
The park stretches from Northern Territory Parliament House to Doctor’s Gully
If you enjoy retail and entertainment visit Casuarina Square on the way back to your accommodation. Casuarina Square is the largest shopping complex in Darwin, literally offering something for everyone, from a food court to a seven-screen cinema complex. The best bit is, once your hands are full with shopping bags you can catch the free shuttle bus from the centre to leading hotels between April and September.
With such all-year round tropical weather and accessibility to beautiful views and pristine waters, the cosmopolitan city of Darwin is must-see for everyone.
