If you are getting ready for an exciting Sydney holiday, you need to make sure that you prepare an itinerary that includes the major attractions. Indeed, when it comes to deciding where you will select for your accommodation, you will want to have a list of attractions developed. You will want your accommodation to be centrally and conveniently located to those attractions that you will want to include on your holiday. One of the attractions that you will want to include is the Sydney Harbour and the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

Sydney is home to some of the most unique architecture and design in all Australia and the world. On the list of interesting and breathtaking structures in the city must be included Sydney Harbour Bridge. This, along with Sydney Harbour, need to be included on your list of attractions. The fact is that the Sydney Harbour Bridge is nothing short of a masterpiece when it comes to design and engineering. And there are many activities that you can enjoy at Sydney Harbour during your holiday.

There are plenty of accommodation choices that are ideally suited if you want to include Sydney Harbour and the Sydney Harbour Bridge as attractions to be seen on your holiday. This includes a wide range of different types of accommodation options – including top notch hotels as well as affordable properties.

Historically, the bridge has garnered the nickname of “The Coathanger” because of its interesting and rather unusual design. Indeed, it does resemble a typical coat hanger in many ways. Up until 1967, the Sydney Harbour Bridge was the tallest structure in the city. Presently, the Sydney Harbour Bridge remains the world’s widest long-span bridge in existence. It is also the tallest steel arch bridge as well. Moreover, it remains the fourth longest bridge of its type on the planet as well. Indeed, when on a Sydney holiday, many people truly enjoy the time they spend at Sydney Harbour and at the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

The Sydney Harbour Bridge has a long history and a storied presence in the city as well. The bridge was formally dedicated in 1932. Oddly, on the day the bridge was dedicated, and just before the invited officials inaugurated the mammoth structure, a man judged to be perhaps rather off balanced charged forward himself – on a horse and with a sword. He cut the ribbon, allegedly in the name of King George V, the ruling British monarch of the day. (He was arrested, ultimately judged sane, and fined five pounds sterling.)

When it comes to visitors to the Harbour Bridge, the walk itself is splendid. There is also a marvelous observation deck where a visitor to the bridge can take in what can only be described as breathtaking views of both the harbor and the city. Again, if you will be taking a holiday, you must consider a walk and a visit to the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

If you are looking for an adventure with some fantastic views and site seeing thrown in for good measure, you can’t beat skydiving. Whether you are in Sydney or Brisbane the view as you fly up and float down are both amazing. Excitement is in the air as the plane takes off and you climb to the jumping altitude. The adrenaline rush can’t really be described as you wait at the door to leave the plane and all you see below is air. Finally as you leave the plane and freefall, the sensations are crazy as your brain tries to make sense of what is happening!

If you want the rush without spending time training, the best choice is tandem skydiving as all it requires is a simple 5 minute safety demonstration explaining where to put your arms when you leave the plane and how to hold out your legs for a comfortable landing. Then you meet your skydiving instructor and away you go! You are strapped into a harness and connected to front of your experienced skydiving instructor who will tell you what to do and when. The instructor pulls the shoot, looks after steering the parachute and is control of the landing, so you can just relax and enjoy the whole experience.

If you think you might like to try pulling your own shoot and landing yourself it is fantastic fun but you will need to do the training. After the required training you will usually have 2 instructors who will jump with you on your first jump.

Skydiving Sydney gives you a couple of choices for your jumping location. If you would like to jump over farmland you can choose to skydive tandem or on your own. If you would like to jump over the beach though, you can do this in Wollongong. To jump from the plane over the beach has to be a tandem jump for this area. The coastline looks amazing as you leave the plane and plummet towards the ground and you might even get to float through a cloud once your parachute opens like I did!

Skydiving Brisbane can be done tandem on the coast and this gives beautiful views of Morton Bay and the Glass House Mountains as you float down to the landing zone.

Skydiving is a something that many people set as a goal to do once in their lives and you never know, you might just fall in love with this adventure sport and find a new hobby or career!

Taking a tour to Tangalooma can be a great side trip for your Brisbane or Gold Coast holiday. Whether you go for a day or stay longer there is plenty to capture the imagination and heart at this truly stunning location. If you plan a Tangalooma tour from the Gold Coast you can be back by dinner! It’s not one of those tours where you are cooped up inside all day, be prepared for plenty of fresh air!

Tangalooma is on Moreton Island and is usually reached by boat. The most common way to get to there is on the Tangalooma Island Resort Launch which leaves daily from a wharf on the Brisbane River close to Brisbane Airport.

The launch takes about 75 minutes across Moreton Bay. Using the resort launch is great guest that are staying over because the resort organises your luggage to be taken directly to your accommodation.

The same launch is used for those going on a Tangalooma day tour. The day tours or day cruises usually leave the wharf at about 10am getting into Tangalooma by about 11.15am. The return launch is at 4pm which gives daytrippers plenty of time to explore the resort, enjoy the breathtaking scenery and possibly even take up one of the other Tangalooma tours on offer such as whale watching in winter or the Dugong Eco Cruise which sets off in search of the famous Moreton Bay dugongs that feed on the seagrass.

If you plan a longer trip and stay over at the resort you may also participate in the famous wild dolphin feeding that goes on nightly all year. A pod of local wild dolphins come in for feeding and interaction with the locals. This is best enjoyed with an overnight stay.

Tangalooma Resort also offers other adventures for visitors such as:
sand tobogganning jet skiing snorkelling on the Tangalooma Wrecks kayak tours 4WD Quad bike tours

By: Annie R

About the Author:

When most people think of Australia they first thing that they think of is the Outback, the Outback is mainly in the Australia Northern Territory. Darwin is by far the largest city in the very sparsely populated Northern Territory, and it is famous for some of the most beautiful and rugged terrain in the entire southern hemisphere. The thing that will stand out the most to you about Darwin is that is built upon a slight buff offering the whole city some stunning views.

One of the most important aspects of any accommodation is the location, and Star City Darwin does not disappoint on this front. With its glorious surroundings on an incredible 18 acre beach front property Star City Darwin is more a world class resort than a stuffy old casino. And considering it is only 15 minutes from the airport and easy walking distance to the centre of the city of Darwin you can be sure to find your Darwin casino vacation is focussed on enjoyment rather than being in transit.

One of the key parts of your Darwin casino vacation seeing the many attractions that are within a short distance of the casino;

•	The world famous Charles Darwin National Park

•	The quaint outdoor deck chair cinema

•	National Trust listed Kakadu National Park

•	The iconic Ghan Railway

•	The dramatic Katherine Gorge

When people tell you that it gets Darwin, they are wrong, it’s extremely hot, but trust me that is a very big part of Darwin’s appeal. The average temperature during the really hot period is 89 °F whilst the cooler months it averages around 74 °F. Not surprisingly the majority of tourist activity in Darwin happens during these cooler months. In all honesty it’s hard to imagine a better place for your casino vacation in Australia than a great modern casino on the beach in a Tropical climate.

The gaming that is on offer at Star City Darwin is a well conceived combination of the old favourites and more modern games, but both will get your blood pumping. You can try your luck with Baccarat, Roulette, Caribbean Stud Poker, Blackjack, Two Up, the Money Wheel, Perfect Pairs, Dice and with so many games you are sure to find one that you can win big on.

One of the benefits of Star City casino Darwin being such a hit with international tourists is that they provide many conveniently located foreign currency exchange stores. So there is no need for you to waste your time searching for a place to change your money over to good old Aussie dollars.

One of the most memorable parts of your Darwin casino vacation will be the incredible variety and freshness of the food. From silver service fine dining, to an authentic Asian feast or even an indulgent seafood buffet, you can be sure that Star City Darwin has the perfect culinary delight for you No matter what your appetite; after all it is your Darwin casino vacation.

One of the best features of Darwin is the lively nightlife and the party starts at Star City itself, and this party atmosphere has made it famous amongst tourists all over the world. While you are enjoying a relaxing drink you can be sure that the locals will join you too to discuss the local culture and tell you the history of the local indigenous communities. And when you consider the warm climate it’s always a smart idea to drop into a bar to cool down and re-hydrate.

The hotel accommodation in Star City Darwin is best summed up in one easy word “resort” after one look in the lavishly appointed rooms and at the views of the tropical rainforest surrounding the hotel you will be convinced that you have found paradise.
The harbour city of Sydney, Australia may not be the country’s capital but it’s still a city of majestic beauty and chic style. Located in Australia’s south east coast, in the state of New South Wales, Sydney is a holiday destination famous for its long days of sunshine, national landmarks and brilliant beaches.

As the site of the first European colony in Australia, Sydney is a city rich in the colonial heritage and history. Hyde Park Barracks and Elizabeth Bay House recreate the atmosphere of the first white settlers in Australia during the 19th and 20th century, as well as housing exhibitions on Australian history, ideas and culture.

The heart of Sydney is its two landmarks, the Sydney Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Built on the picturesque Sydney harbour, the opera house is one of the greatest performing arts centres in the world and a source of great beauty and wonder. Opened in 1973, it was designed by a Danish architect to represent the sailing ships of the harbour. The Sydney Harbour Bridge was opened in 1932 and is affectionately nicknamed the ‘coathanger’ because of its unique shape. Both of these landmarks run regular tours; however the best way to really experience the breathtaking architecture is to take one of the many cruises which run up and down the harbour daily.

A more natural side of Sydney can be found on Bondi Beach. An extremely popular tourist destination, Bondi Beach is a thriving cosmopolitan centre for sun, surf and fun. The crystal clear waters and white sand of this moon shaped bay are only rivalled by the first class restaurant and eateries which fringe it.

Sydney itself is much more than a place filled with iconic attractions, it is a city with a love for art and style. The city centre boasts some of the best shopping districts and nightlife in Australia. The Chinese Garden of Friendship demonstrates Sydney’s rich multicultural flavour, whilst the Sydney Markets are a perfect place to experience the friendly carefree attitude of the people and pick up some great souvenirs.

The city of Sydney is a modern metropolitan that hasn’t lost its natural beauty or green surroundings. It is not a city of stress or smog but one of rest and relaxation. A perfect holiday destination.

By: Giulio Detti

About the Author:

According to an American travel magazine Conde Nast Travel, Sydney is the world’s top city, leaving such famous travel destinations as Florence, San Francisco and Bangkok far behind. Also note that this Australian megapolis got the status of the friendliest city in the world. If you’re still not ready for a personal visit to Sydney, why not make an imaginary trip?

The regular bus will take you from the airport to the city centre, Alfred street. So, you’re at the Sydney harbour. On the left there is a famous Harbour Bridge, the 20th century architectural miracle. On the right there is a huge Sydney opera shell. There is also an observation deck, excellent for taking the photographs of the Sydney opera and a group of skyscrapers adjacent to the harbour.

The Sydney Opera house is well-known all around the world. It looks like an exotic stone flower surrounded by glass skyscrapers. Some compare it with the giant seashells or the sails in the wind. The building is located at the cape and, looking at the lively sea, crowded with yachts and seagulls, one can feel what the opera’s architect, Jorn Utzon, was inspired with. The famous silhouette can be found at any postcard: the opera turned into a calling card not only for Sydney, but for the whole country. Its history, by the way, is rich in controversy. The project cost a fortune, its author left the country before construction was over. But its cultural importance is worth it: there are a theatre for 1550 seats and a concert hall for 2700 seats located under one roof. There are also a Playhouse, an end-stage theatre with 398 seats, and a Studio for 400 people in the opera. The complex, which is visited by a total of 1,5 million people every year, is complemented by a library, artistic salons, cafes and restaurants.

But millions of the white roof and wall tiles are fragile and demand delicate treatment. At the same time, they constantly suffer from overheating and the salty sea air. That is why great amounts of money are spent on the opera maintenance.

But let’s continue our walk and see other city attractions – the Sydney Tower, Sydney monorail which connects Darling Harbour, Chinatown and the Sydney central business and shopping districts. Sometimes the monorail runs through the buildings, above the water or the ground.. The whole route takes no more than half an hour, but lots of things can be observed during the trip.

Our next stop is the George Street, and the huge Queen Victoria Building – the colonial-style shopping centre made of red stone. To the north of the centre there is The Rocks inner-city suburb, historic suburbs from which Sydney started. The area contains lots of private bars and restaurants and leads to the Harbour Bridge (by the way, its still nicknamed The Coathanger). Having crossed the bridge, we get to the scenic shore, then our route lies through the underwater tunnel (it lies 21 meters below the sea level), Kings Cross – the centre for Sydney nightlife, and the Australian oldest park – Hyde Park. The excursion stops at the James Cook monument which is a good starting point for the catamaran cruise around the Port Jackson harbour.

Sydney is a huge city which contains a great amount of interesting cultural objects. Its impossible to observe them all, but if you have the time, visit the Australian National Maritime Museum to find out interesting facts about the sea, the boats and even surfboard. Speaking of surfing: waves are excellent, but you should never relax you vigilance.

By: Tatyana Kogut

About the Author:

The Hawksbill Turtle (eretmochelys imbricata) typically occurs in tidal and sub-tidal coral and rocky reef habitats throughout tropical and sub-tropical waters.

Sponges make up a major part of the diet of Hawksbills, although they also feed on seagrasses, algae, soft corals and shellfish.

The Hawksbill turtle has a distinctive parrot-like beak. Other characteristics include:

• 4 pairs or more of large scales on either side (coastal scales)

• Thick overlapping carapace (protective, shell-like covering on the back of the turtle) scales

• Carapace low domed with upturned edges

• Adult carapace approx. 0.8m

• Colour olive grey

In Australia the main feeding area extends along the East Coast, including the Great Barrier Reef. Other feeding areas include Torres Strait and the archipelagos of the Northern Territory and Western Australia, as far south as Coral Bay and Shark Bay.

In Western Australia, Hawksbills generally have smaller annual nesting populations of tens to hundreds of turtles. However, they have an extended nesting period and may nest at any time of the year. Their peak nesting period is between October and February. They often share the nesting beaches mid-season with other species of turtles, but commence breeding much earlier.

Confirmed northern Gascoyne region nesting locations include Ningaloo beaches from the Coral Bay area north to the Muiron Islands. There are no records of Hawksbills nesting at more southerly locations.

As at December 2005, a total of about 2,500 nesting females had been tagged and released for population studies.

There is a widespread belief that the Hawksbill can be poisonous. Australian Aboriginal people believe this, and usually harvest only the eggs at coastal sites. Some minor illegal trade in Hawksbill turtle shells has been detected in recent times but there is now no evidence of organised or substantial trade within Australia. Historic external trade did occur.

This page not only has a lot of information about marine turtles, but have a look at my other related topics including:

•	Life-cycle of Marine Turtles

It doesn’t matter if you are travelling from Ayers Rock, Adelaide, Darwin or Tennant Creek, all roads lead to Alice Springs, and with two majestic ranges on either side it is so worth exploring the wilderness just outside the city. Only one hundred kilometres to the east from Alice are the breathtaking Eastern MacDonnell Ranges. Although not as well known as the ranges to the West, they offer incredible walks, magnificent views and a diversity you will find hard to match. The natural gorges are the drawcard to this rugged wilderness, with Ruby, Trephina and Ndhala Gorges all equally spectacular, and plenty of incredible landmarks accessible by campervan.

If you would prefer to base yourself in Alice, the MacDonnell Range Holiday Park is one of the best you will find, with every convenience and extra facility to make your holiday even more relaxing. Just a few kilometres out of town, there are playgrounds, bike tracks, go carts, swimming pools, games room and spacious grounds so you can get settled in style before you start exploring.

To get to the East MacDonnell Ranges, head south from Alice Springs and turn into the Ross Highway. There are enough signs along the way, as well as a few nature parks well worth a visit.

Starting with Trephina Gorge Nature Park, you could spend a good week here exploring the winding creeks, clear waterholes and panoramic lookouts. Eagles dominate the skyline, and there is plenty of wildlife for nature lovers. It would be easy to feel like you had already experienced the diversity of the ranges with so much to offer in this gorge alone. It is one of the most popular of the gorges, being the nearest to civilisation, with five beautiful walks suitable for most fitness levels ranging from under an hour to over six hours.

One of the most popular destinations for many travellers to this remote spot in the Territory is Ross River Resort, the
ideal base for all your adventures, or a chance to unwind with the eagles and wilderness for company. Along with cosy log cabins, there is a fantastic caravan park which is ideal for a night or two in rich outback territory. For the adventurous there is camel riding and horse riding available, or for those who would prefer to keep their feet on the ground, fossicking for gold is an enjoyable past time as this area.

Head another fifteen kilometres into the ranges and you will reach N’Dhala Gorge Nature Park. This is perfect for lovers of aboriginal history, with rock carvings everywhere you look within the walls of the gorges. This area is mostly accessible but some roads require a four wheel drive.

Another popular camping spot is the Gemtree Caravan Park. With lush grounds and plenty of room to move, it’s a great place to set up camp and enjoy nature at its best. Take another fossicking tour, or enjoy a campfire and billy tea. There is even a golf course for those who feel like a hit.

Ruby Gap Nature Park is another forty kilometres away, and only accessible by four wheel drive. It is worth the trek, if you can get there, and an overnight camping experience here is one of life’s pleasures you would find hard to beat as this region is one of the most beautiful in the Northern Territory.

The East MacDonnell Ranges is the ultimate oasis in the desert. Although often compared to the popular Western MacDonnell Ranges, it is appealing that there are not as many tourists and more locals. The scenery is rugged and magnificent, and if you are looking for adventure and wildlife at its best than this is one place you need to find yourself.

A Northern Territory adventure couldn’t be easier to organise, with our campervans available for pick up and drop off in Darwin or Alice Springs. The freedom to come and go as you please makes a campervan adventure one of the most enjoyable ways to travel. And the East MacDonnell Ranges have never looked better.

By: Jenny Brewer

About the Author:
