1. Sydney Harbour Bridge

The Sydney Harbour Bridge is a must-see for all visitors. Take the opportunity to cross the bridge from either side, be it from Milsons Point in North Sydney or the Rocks in the city. You may even want to go to the Pylon Lookout, where you can not only view information about the origins of the Bridge but also have the chance to take excellent photographs. Daredevils may want to go for the thrilling option of climbing up the Bridge. Such climbs are provided every day. However, they are in high demand and it is recommended that you book in advance.

2. Sydney Opera House

The Sydney Opera House is the monument most frequently associated with Sydney. With a fascinating history and an even more fascinating architectural design, the Sydney Opera House will take your breath away. It attracts millions of tourists every year. While just taking in its beauty is enough, you may want to venture inside the Opera House and buy a ticket to one of the many theatre, ballet or musical productions which are held inside. You can also choose to go on a guided tour which will allow you to gain a more detailed insight into the history and functions of the Opera House.

3. Bondi Beach

Bondi Beach is one of the most famous beaches in the world, and is a tourist favourite.
Its sparkling water and warm sand attracts people from all over the world. You can spend hours people-watching on Bondi Beach without ever getting bored. Here, nudity and displays of affection are common, so families with children may want to head for other beaches instead.

4. Luna Park

Luna Park is a large and iconic theme park located near the Sydney Harbour Bridge. It features a variety of rides and activities, such as Prison Break, Coney Island, Dodgems, Tango Train and many more. Children will be delighted with the endless exciting list of things to do within the park. The park has just been redeveloped, and with its many shaded seating and café, will be sure to appeal to both children and adults alike.

5. Sydney Tower

Sydney Tower, otherwise known as Centrepoint Tower, is the tallest building in Sydney. Inside, you can find a coffee lounge, an Observation Deck as well as two restaurants. Many visitors head for Sydney Tower as it provides an excellent aerial view of the surrounding area, not to mention countless phototaking opportunities. The food buffet offered in the restaurant is also highly recommended.

So, you are thinking about taking an Australian vacation or holiday?

Australia is a fantastic country offering something for everyone. It has plenty of sunshine, amazing beaches, an outback landscape that is stunning and of course some great cities and the Great Barrier Reef.

Australian holidays can be anything you want them to be. But make sure you do some careful planning. Don’t underestimate the size of Australia which makes getting around difficult if you rely solely on a car or campervan. You will need to combine it with some air travel.

Take some advice from a local who has been there, seen it and done it! Plan your trip in sync with the Australian Weather. The good news is that it doesn’t matter when you travel, there is always somewhere in Australia that is hot (or cold!)

If you like the sunshine, then most of Australia is hot from October to March. For most Australian destinations, this is the best time to visit.

The top end of Australia (anything north of and including Cairns and Broome) has two seasons – the wet and the dry. The dry season is the time when you want to go. It’s just not a good idea to go in the wet as roads and attractions are often closed due to flooding. There is one exception to this though. You shouldn’t be put off going to the Great Barrier Reef. It might rain a bit on your way out to the reef and the boat trip could be a bit rocky but its definitely worth it.

If the usual tourist trail of the East coast isn’t really floating your boat, then head to the top end of Australia. Here you can experience some fantastic outback adventures and appreciate the stunning scenery and bird life in the nearby national parks of Kakadu and Litchfield. This area is steeped in traditional aboriginal culture -a must see area if you want to get to know the aboriginal Australia.

Australia holidays need at least 3 weeks to be enjoyed. Anything shorter will feel very rushed. Perhaps you are one of the lucky ones and have a few months to explore Australia. If so, Australia has heaps to on offer.

However long you have, try to incorporate an outback experience, at least one city and some beach/coast. That way, you will get a real feel for what Australia is all about.

I personally recommend the following places, especially if this is your first time here. Yes, some of them are very touristy but you can’t come to Oz and not do them.

Sydney – There’s more to it than the bridge and opera house but they are particularly stunning and deserve a visit.
Melbourne – a total contrast to Sydney with its great shopping and tiny lanes to explore.
Ayers Rock – a truly memorable aboriginal experience – even spiritual!
Kangaroo Island – the place to see animals in their natural environment
Jervis Bay – Amazing beaches. You’ll think you are in paradise.
The Barrier Reef – Come and see the fishes and maybe even learn to dive.

Before embarking of your road trip to the Blue Mountains from Sydney make sure you are prepared. Pack a picnic and enjoy one of the many stops along the way. There are plenty of little towns and parks if you are traveling to the Blue Mountains from Sydney. Make sure you are prepared for your trip- set the GPS, take some warm clothes, get the camera and don’t forget the thermos.

The main road to the Blue Mountains from Sydney is the Great Western Highway. When heading out of Sydney make sure you follow the signs to Parramatta. This winding, ascending road will take you through 26 mountain townships that are scattered throughout the Blue Mountains National Park. If you are driving from Sydney make sure you stop and visit some of the shops and local cafes. You will be sure to notice the outstanding hospitality on offer in this part of the country.

During your trip make sure do one of the following activities that are on offer:

- Visit Mount Annan Botanic Gardens and discover the abundance of native plants and birds
- Visit Thirlmere where you can go to the rail museum and take a ride on the Zig Zag Railway
- Explore the Jenolan Caves and be amazed by the natural intricacies of the limestone chasms carved by the underground rivers
- Enjoy some of the local fresh produce from the roadside stalls at Kurrajong
- Explore the historic buildings of St Albans in the Hawkesbury Valley, Wollombi and Broke.

One major thing you will notice on your trip to the Blue Mountains from Sydney is the difference in temperature so make sure you have a stockpile of warm clothes. The temperature during your journey will on average drop approximately 2°C for every 300 metres altitude you travel. Remember that the average temperature in the Blue Mountains during winter is around 5°C whilst it summer its 18°C.

Once you arrive here from Sydney you will realize what a special area it is. This was declared a World Heritage park in 2000. It received its World Heritage listing due to the unique plants and animals that occupy the area and their relevance to Australia’s story of evolution. It is an area of magnificent views, sheer cliffs, inaccessibly valleys & swamps and rugged tablelands.

A visit to the Blue Mountains is a truly unique experience and a “must do” for every one. So whether you drive, take the train, take a bus or enjoy a private tour make sure you don’t miss experiencing the Blue Mountains and all it has to offer.
