If you are getting ready for an exciting Sydney holiday, you need to make sure that you prepare an itinerary that includes the major attractions. Indeed, when it comes to deciding where you will select for your accommodation, you will want to have a list of attractions developed. You will want your accommodation to be centrally and conveniently located to those attractions that you will want to include on your holiday. One of the attractions that you will want to include is the Sydney Harbour and the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

Sydney is home to some of the most unique architecture and design in all Australia and the world. On the list of interesting and breathtaking structures in the city must be included Sydney Harbour Bridge. This, along with Sydney Harbour, need to be included on your list of attractions. The fact is that the Sydney Harbour Bridge is nothing short of a masterpiece when it comes to design and engineering. And there are many activities that you can enjoy at Sydney Harbour during your holiday.

There are plenty of accommodation choices that are ideally suited if you want to include Sydney Harbour and the Sydney Harbour Bridge as attractions to be seen on your holiday. This includes a wide range of different types of accommodation options – including top notch hotels as well as affordable properties.

Historically, the bridge has garnered the nickname of “The Coathanger” because of its interesting and rather unusual design. Indeed, it does resemble a typical coat hanger in many ways. Up until 1967, the Sydney Harbour Bridge was the tallest structure in the city. Presently, the Sydney Harbour Bridge remains the world’s widest long-span bridge in existence. It is also the tallest steel arch bridge as well. Moreover, it remains the fourth longest bridge of its type on the planet as well. Indeed, when on a Sydney holiday, many people truly enjoy the time they spend at Sydney Harbour and at the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

The Sydney Harbour Bridge has a long history and a storied presence in the city as well. The bridge was formally dedicated in 1932. Oddly, on the day the bridge was dedicated, and just before the invited officials inaugurated the mammoth structure, a man judged to be perhaps rather off balanced charged forward himself – on a horse and with a sword. He cut the ribbon, allegedly in the name of King George V, the ruling British monarch of the day. (He was arrested, ultimately judged sane, and fined five pounds sterling.)

When it comes to visitors to the Harbour Bridge, the walk itself is splendid. There is also a marvelous observation deck where a visitor to the bridge can take in what can only be described as breathtaking views of both the harbor and the city. Again, if you will be taking a holiday, you must consider a walk and a visit to the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

If you are looking for an adventure with some fantastic views and site seeing thrown in for good measure, you can’t beat skydiving. Whether you are in Sydney or Brisbane the view as you fly up and float down are both amazing. Excitement is in the air as the plane takes off and you climb to the jumping altitude. The adrenaline rush can’t really be described as you wait at the door to leave the plane and all you see below is air. Finally as you leave the plane and freefall, the sensations are crazy as your brain tries to make sense of what is happening!

If you want the rush without spending time training, the best choice is tandem skydiving as all it requires is a simple 5 minute safety demonstration explaining where to put your arms when you leave the plane and how to hold out your legs for a comfortable landing. Then you meet your skydiving instructor and away you go! You are strapped into a harness and connected to front of your experienced skydiving instructor who will tell you what to do and when. The instructor pulls the shoot, looks after steering the parachute and is control of the landing, so you can just relax and enjoy the whole experience.

If you think you might like to try pulling your own shoot and landing yourself it is fantastic fun but you will need to do the training. After the required training you will usually have 2 instructors who will jump with you on your first jump.

Skydiving Sydney gives you a couple of choices for your jumping location. If you would like to jump over farmland you can choose to skydive tandem or on your own. If you would like to jump over the beach though, you can do this in Wollongong. To jump from the plane over the beach has to be a tandem jump for this area. The coastline looks amazing as you leave the plane and plummet towards the ground and you might even get to float through a cloud once your parachute opens like I did!

Skydiving Brisbane can be done tandem on the coast and this gives beautiful views of Morton Bay and the Glass House Mountains as you float down to the landing zone.

Skydiving is a something that many people set as a goal to do once in their lives and you never know, you might just fall in love with this adventure sport and find a new hobby or career!

The harbour city of Sydney, Australia may not be the country’s capital but it’s still a city of majestic beauty and chic style. Located in Australia’s south east coast, in the state of New South Wales, Sydney is a holiday destination famous for its long days of sunshine, national landmarks and brilliant beaches.

As the site of the first European colony in Australia, Sydney is a city rich in the colonial heritage and history. Hyde Park Barracks and Elizabeth Bay House recreate the atmosphere of the first white settlers in Australia during the 19th and 20th century, as well as housing exhibitions on Australian history, ideas and culture.

The heart of Sydney is its two landmarks, the Sydney Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Built on the picturesque Sydney harbour, the opera house is one of the greatest performing arts centres in the world and a source of great beauty and wonder. Opened in 1973, it was designed by a Danish architect to represent the sailing ships of the harbour. The Sydney Harbour Bridge was opened in 1932 and is affectionately nicknamed the ‘coathanger’ because of its unique shape. Both of these landmarks run regular tours; however the best way to really experience the breathtaking architecture is to take one of the many cruises which run up and down the harbour daily.

A more natural side of Sydney can be found on Bondi Beach. An extremely popular tourist destination, Bondi Beach is a thriving cosmopolitan centre for sun, surf and fun. The crystal clear waters and white sand of this moon shaped bay are only rivalled by the first class restaurant and eateries which fringe it.

Sydney itself is much more than a place filled with iconic attractions, it is a city with a love for art and style. The city centre boasts some of the best shopping districts and nightlife in Australia. The Chinese Garden of Friendship demonstrates Sydney’s rich multicultural flavour, whilst the Sydney Markets are a perfect place to experience the friendly carefree attitude of the people and pick up some great souvenirs.

The city of Sydney is a modern metropolitan that hasn’t lost its natural beauty or green surroundings. It is not a city of stress or smog but one of rest and relaxation. A perfect holiday destination.

By: Giulio Detti

About the Author:

According to an American travel magazine Conde Nast Travel, Sydney is the world’s top city, leaving such famous travel destinations as Florence, San Francisco and Bangkok far behind. Also note that this Australian megapolis got the status of the friendliest city in the world. If you’re still not ready for a personal visit to Sydney, why not make an imaginary trip?

The regular bus will take you from the airport to the city centre, Alfred street. So, you’re at the Sydney harbour. On the left there is a famous Harbour Bridge, the 20th century architectural miracle. On the right there is a huge Sydney opera shell. There is also an observation deck, excellent for taking the photographs of the Sydney opera and a group of skyscrapers adjacent to the harbour.

The Sydney Opera house is well-known all around the world. It looks like an exotic stone flower surrounded by glass skyscrapers. Some compare it with the giant seashells or the sails in the wind. The building is located at the cape and, looking at the lively sea, crowded with yachts and seagulls, one can feel what the opera’s architect, Jorn Utzon, was inspired with. The famous silhouette can be found at any postcard: the opera turned into a calling card not only for Sydney, but for the whole country. Its history, by the way, is rich in controversy. The project cost a fortune, its author left the country before construction was over. But its cultural importance is worth it: there are a theatre for 1550 seats and a concert hall for 2700 seats located under one roof. There are also a Playhouse, an end-stage theatre with 398 seats, and a Studio for 400 people in the opera. The complex, which is visited by a total of 1,5 million people every year, is complemented by a library, artistic salons, cafes and restaurants.

But millions of the white roof and wall tiles are fragile and demand delicate treatment. At the same time, they constantly suffer from overheating and the salty sea air. That is why great amounts of money are spent on the opera maintenance.

But let’s continue our walk and see other city attractions – the Sydney Tower, Sydney monorail which connects Darling Harbour, Chinatown and the Sydney central business and shopping districts. Sometimes the monorail runs through the buildings, above the water or the ground.. The whole route takes no more than half an hour, but lots of things can be observed during the trip.

Our next stop is the George Street, and the huge Queen Victoria Building – the colonial-style shopping centre made of red stone. To the north of the centre there is The Rocks inner-city suburb, historic suburbs from which Sydney started. The area contains lots of private bars and restaurants and leads to the Harbour Bridge (by the way, its still nicknamed The Coathanger). Having crossed the bridge, we get to the scenic shore, then our route lies through the underwater tunnel (it lies 21 meters below the sea level), Kings Cross – the centre for Sydney nightlife, and the Australian oldest park – Hyde Park. The excursion stops at the James Cook monument which is a good starting point for the catamaran cruise around the Port Jackson harbour.

Sydney is a huge city which contains a great amount of interesting cultural objects. Its impossible to observe them all, but if you have the time, visit the Australian National Maritime Museum to find out interesting facts about the sea, the boats and even surfboard. Speaking of surfing: waves are excellent, but you should never relax you vigilance.

By: Tatyana Kogut

About the Author:

One of the main attractions of a vacation visit to Sydney, Australia, is the stunning views of Sydney Harbor. Why not enjoy this magnificent scene from the deck of a speeding jet boat or a more leisurely cruising sailboat?

There are quite a few companies offering boat rides on Sydney Harbor so you have a variety to choose from.

Sail boats are a nice way to go because they cruise along at a slower pace and allow you to really drink in the surrounding beauty of the harbor. You can chat with you friends, family and shipmates while sipping a cold drink and letting the ocean breeze blow through you hair.

Another way to go is getting on one of the fast jet boats that zip around the harbor and under the Harbor Bridge. Some of these boats have as much as 700 horsepower and the way they race and bounce across the waves you can fully expect to get your face wet. But no worries just put your face to the sun and dry off.

These speed boat rides will give you a thrill that rivals the best amusement park ride. The pilots will put the boat through fancy maneuvers like fish tails, spins and power-brake stops. So tighten up the safety vest as these boats can reach speeds approaching 50 miles per hour as they churn their way through the wake.

Another choice is a fishing cruise. Sydney Harbor provides superb access to the Great Barrier Reef, which is one of the best fishing areas in the world. Whether you want to go out for a couple hours or all day, Sydney has no shortage of fishing cruise companies ready to ensure that you have a great fishing cruise.

Then there’s the always popular whale watching cruise. Here you can really relax and enjoy the adventure of spotting these great denizens of the sea. Along the way there are plenty of native birds to look for as well as Fairy penguins, seals, dolphins.

Many of the various Sydney water excursions depart from the areas around the Sydney Opera House, the Taronga Zoo and Darling Harbour.

You can also go to Circular Quay to catch a harbor boat excursion. These trips will typically take you up the southern shore to Watsons Bay, then to Middle Harbor before returning to Circular Quay.

A great way to enjoy Sydney Harbor is to take a lunch or dinner cruise. Many people prefer the sunset or evening cruises. The harbor is especially beautiful at night and a scenic nighttime cruise of the eastern suburbs and the upscale Middle harbor is a pleasant and romantic way to spend an evening.

If you have a little more money in your vacation budget you can charter a yacht with a captain and full crew. You can tour the harbor in comfort and style with air-conditioning, television, DVD movies, refrigerator and other amenities.

Cockle Bay is a good place to go if you would like to take a romantic gondola ride on the water. These gentle gliding boats can seat up to four people and you can even get them catered.

No matter what you budget or interests, Sydney Harbor should be near the top of you list for things to do and see on you vacation to Sydney, Australia.

By: Peter Shannon

About the Author:
